DCTS Green Machine makes its public debut at the 2012 Delco Enviro Fair, Saturday April 14 at Strath Haven High School. DCTS joined dozens of businesses and organizations to provide a full day of exhibits and presentations. The DCTS Green Machine was showcased as an innovative educational project alongside the newest alternative-fuel technology models including the Tesla, Nissan LEAF, Toyota Prius and Chevy Volt.

DCTS students converted the Mazda 4X4 pick-up truck from an internal combustion engine to a completely electrical 120-volt vehicle. The truck was donated to the school and serves as a perfect platform for an EV (electric vehicle) conversion. The project is headed by Mr.William Jenkins, Automotive Technology instructor. Mr. Marty Stamper’s Collision Repair class completed the bodywork and painted the vehicle with environmentally friendly waterborne coating, after renovating the classroom with the state-of-the-art painting and drying technologies received through the Pennsylvania Department of Education Equipment Grant.

Enviro-Fair visitors of all ages learned earn how to eat tastier, healthier foods; to garden and landscape more sustainably; to choose cars and bikes that make commuting cleaner and more fun; to make home improvements that conserve energy and add value; and to adopt greener technologies and techniques.

Cyber Security Learning Series

Thursdays, May 3 through June 28, 2012

DCTS and Digital Consulting Associates are partnering to present a Cyber Security Learning Series that provides plain-talk guidance, practical skill development and computer incident response training. Industry certification exam information for computer networking and security is provided to all students.

They partnered with students from other DCTS programs to present a variety of careers. To kick off the events, students performed a Career Puppet Show as an introduction the week prior. They coordinated a Career Fair for the Tot Stop Preschool February 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

 

 

Career Fair activities included:

  • Culinary Arts – kids wore real chef hats, prepared chocolate chip pancakes and ate them for snack!
  • Cosmetology – they made color wheels by mixing playdough.
  • Construction – kids hammered nails, sanded blocks, and used a screw gun to drill screws into wood. 
  • Automotive – students made dune buggy, junior drag racing car, and simulated motor for children.
  • Health Occupations – students shared a kid-friendly eye test, calisthenics, hospital gown dress-up, and listened to their heartbeat.
  • Emergency Protective Service – students presented fire safety and professional fire-protective gear.

Early Childhood Education students created a follow-up career activity book. They will officially present this project at FCCLA State Leadership Conference March 19, 20 and 21.

The Hat and Mitten Tree provided Delcroft Elementary  with 37 gloves/mittens, 26 hats, 3 scarves, and 11 hat and glove sets for students in need.
