Go Green from the Ground Up!

DCTS is preparing students for the growth of a new generation of careers dedicated to environmental sustainability. From building ponds to caring for plants in the school’s on-site greenhouse, students experience hands-on design and installation projects using professional equipment and materials.

DCTS instructors are Green Advantage® certified. By partnering with organizations such as the Smart Energy Initiative, Pennsylvania Horticultural Society and Longwood Gardens, we expose students to the latest in horticulture careers and techniques using standards in LEED construction and design.

Students should expect to invest approximately $400 in specialize tools, uniforms, kits and reference books for this 3-year program.

This is a very important development for students interested in green building! This kind of program used to only be offered at a masters level. Credits that they earn for their work in Construction Cluster (Building Trades, Carpentry, Electricity, and HVAC) work toward a variety of associate degrees. Those students can participate in the new Bachelor’s program in sustainable design.
