All students enrolled in Delaware County Technical High Schools have the opportunity to participate in at least one Career & Technical Student Organization (CTSO) . Students who become members in these co-curricular organizations have the opportunity to participate in a broad spectrum of activities including skill competitions, career and technology fairs, trips, service projects, special events and social activities.
Students also have the opportunity to attend skills competitions where the skills they have learned are “put to the test” as they compete against other competitors. These competitions include testing of knowledge and hands-on skills in a variety of trade and leadership events. Students who are fortunate enough to win their events at a district or state competition are able to compete at the national level and travel to locations such as Louisville, KY, Kansas City, MO, San Diego, CA, Orlando, FL, and Cleveland, OH.
DCTS offers four student organizations . All students are encouraged to participate in Skills USA and/or one of the other career specific organizations.
SkillsUSA is the largest of the organizations and is open to all students. It emphasizes respect for the dignity of work, high standards and trade ethics, workmanship, scholarship, safety, and partnership with business. It also serves as the school’s student government, since all students are eligible to participate in SkillsUSA. FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) is open to students enrolled in the Occupational Child Development, Culinary Arts, and Service Occupations programs. Emphasis is on promoting personal growth and leadership development through family and consumer science education, focusing on the multiple roles of family members, wage earners, and community leaders.
