Weatherization includes 3 levels of training and certification in the energy efficiency field:
1. Installers
Prerequisites – possess safe work practices and
Installers are members of the contracting crews who install weatherization measures. They locate leaks and apply air sealing, duct sealing, insulation, dense packing. They repair or replace plaster, drywall and glass. They gain an overall knowledge of how the house works as a system.
Training for Installers lasts approximately 5-6 consecutive days and includes Lead and Crew Safety, four days of Weatherization Tactics and one day for testing. (Can be taught over a longer period for weekend days/evenings) View Scheduled Classes >>
2. Crew Chiefs
Prerequisites – possess safe work practices, Installer certification, and a working knowledge of building science principles.
Crew Chiefs are personnel that supervise field workers such as Installers. They manage the project so that weatherization work is conducted safely, effectively and efficiently. A Crew Chief is responsible for quality control, safety, ordering materials and equipment and inspecting completed work.
Training for Crew Chief lasts approximately 10-12 full consecutive days (Can be taught over a longer period for weekend days/evenings) including 6 days for Installer certification with additional training in Diagnostics, Advanced Diagnostics and Customer Service/Communications. 3. Energy Auditors
Prerequisites- possess safe work practices, Installer certification, Crew Chief certification, and a working knowledge of building science principals.
Energy Auditors are responsible for analyzing homes and providing clients with a plan that addresses improvements in energy efficiency, health and safety. They work to optimize performance of heating and cooling systems and address the overall building envelope. Energy Auditors develop detailed analysis reports on home conditions and recommend improvement measures.
Training for Energy Auditors lasts approximately 27 consecutive days (Can be taught over a longer period for weekend days/evenings) including 6 days for Installer certification, 6 days for Crew Chief certification, with additional training in Resource Heat Systems, Combustion Analysis and Retrofit for Oil and Gas and Home Energy Auditing.
